This represents the chronic inflammatory damage to the supporting tissues of the teeth, i.e. the gum and bone. When the inflammation is limited to the gum, the condition is called <strong>gingivitis<\/strong>, and if this stage has been exceeded, and the inflammation includes the bone, we are talking about <strong>periodontitis<\/strong> or <strong>periodontitis<\/strong> (in the past the term periodontosis was used, some patients still recognize this particular term). Literal, <strong>periodontitis<\/strong> means &quot;inflammation around the tooth&quot;. In conclusion, the disease affects both the gum and the bone: it resorbs (melts), and the gum follows the bone, receding, or it can stay in place even though the bone is resorbed. In the absence of one <strong>dental treatment<\/strong> appropriate and prompt,<strong> periodontal disease<\/strong> leads to tooth loss. The main cause of periodontal disease is <strong>bacterial plaque<\/strong>, that thin, sticky, colorless or slightly yellowish film that constantly forms at the base of the tooth and that causes gum inflammation. When it is not effectively removed daily, by brushing in the morning and in the evening, the bacterial plaque, under the action of the minerals in the saliva, hardens and forms dental tartar. Tartar can no longer be removed by simple brushing, but requires special tools and devices, specific to the cabinet <strong>of dental prophylaxis<\/strong> (the procedure is called descaling and is required at least 2 times a year).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-99db4c9\" data-id=\"99db4c9\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-30eec22 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"30eec22\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Bacterial plaque<\/strong> it is formed on the basis of food residues, used by bacteria (called periodontal bacteria).
