Dentistry for children

Children, by virtue of their diet which often contains a lot of sweets and carbonated drinks, have problems with their teeth. Whether it's cavities, enamel erosion or increased gum sensitivity, little ones need extra attention in terms of dental health and oral hygiene.

However, currently, unfortunately, there is little collaboration between pediatricians and dentists, an approach that the Davinci dental clinic team is trying to change, going for a holistic approach.

There is an opinion that the first visit to the dentist should be carried out at the age of 1 month, to check the condition of the brake, which could confuse the breastfeeding process, Other specialists recommend that parents go to the dentist immediately after the appearance of milk teeth, in order to notice certain deficiencies in time, which will be much more difficult to corrected in adolescence. There is even a recommended age for the first visit to the dentist: 3 years, for various reasons.

During this period, the child develops a special receptivity towards adults, is much more attentive and, of course, can interact positively with the dentist.

In this sense, it is relevant to carry out regular visits every half year, to monitor the possible occurrence of certain common problems among the little ones, such as:

  • Brake connected – statistics say that every third baby faces this problem. Therefore, if the little one does not attach correctly to the breast, cannot suck, then it is worth having a check-up at the dentist, who can intervene minimally to detach the membrane, enough to facilitate the feeding of the little one.
  • Dental caries – is probably the most common teething problem in children. Cavities destroy tooth enamel, increasing their sensitivity and making them vulnerable. At the same time, if they are not treated in time, they can degenerate into other diseases of the oral cavity, creating pain and the need for invasive intervention.
  • gingivitis – is a troublesome condition that results from poor oral hygiene. If the daily ritual of cleaning the teeth is not carried out, tartar and bacterial plaque accumulate on the surface of the teeth, which cause inflammation of the gums and degenerate into acute pain and bleeding, leading to long-term tooth loss.
  • Dental abscess – a condition that often occurs in children also due to the accumulation of dental tartar and bacterial plaque. It is a dental emergency, which cannot be delayed and involves rapid intervention, plus the use of antibiotics, which would minimize the risks.
  • Demineralization of teeth – is a frequent problem, which involves the loss of fluoride from the teeth, and in the long term leads to the appearance of caries. To avoid this, you can call the dentist who applies a fluoride gel that remineralizes and regenerates the teeth. If the procedure is performed in a timely manner, then the affected teeth are restored in a few weeks, and the use of a special toothpaste will prolong the effect.
  • Dental crowding – although we tend to think that only the changed teeth will matter this is wrong. How the baby teeth grow, from their location, depends on how the mature dentition will be formed later, therefore, if there is dental crowding, it must be urgently corrected, which can only be done with the help of doctors. Effective correction allows the dentition to develop properly and reduces the risks of other problems, such as abscesses, cavities or tooth demineralization.

An important moment that every parent should not forget is to form a dental care routine right from the first teeth, because proper hygiene ensures the health of the oral cavity. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Avoid giving the child acidic juices and carbonated drinks;
  • Minimize the consumption of sweets and opt for those with a low sugar content;
  • Choose an age-appropriate toothpaste and a toothbrush with soft bristles that would not traumatize the gums;
  • Do not forget the need for vitamins D and calcium for the little one and choose the right supplements.
