Periodontal treatment

Periodontitis, also known as periodontal disease, popularly called periodontitis, is one of the most common diseases of the human species. This represents the chronic inflammatory damage to the supporting tissues of the teeth, i.e. the gum and bone. When the inflammation is limited to the gum, the condition is called gingivitis, and if this stage has been exceeded, and the inflammation includes the bone, we are talking about periodontitis or periodontitis (in the past the term periodontosis was used, some patients still recognize this particular term). Literal, periodontitis means "inflammation around the tooth". In conclusion, the disease affects both the gum and the bone: it resorbs (melts), and the gum follows the bone, receding, or it can stay in place even though the bone is resorbed. In the absence of one dental treatment appropriate and prompt, periodontal disease leads to tooth loss. It can affect a single tooth, several teeth or all teeth.

Statistically, periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss and can be associated with other chronic diseases including diabetes and heart disease.

The most common causes of the development of periodontitis are: pathogens (PA bacteria), genetic predisposition given by the immune system, poor oral hygiene, smoking, systemic diseases and stress. The main cause of periodontal disease is bacterial plaque, that thin, sticky, colorless or slightly yellowish film that constantly forms at the base of the tooth and that causes gum inflammation. When it is not effectively removed daily, by brushing in the morning and in the evening, the bacterial plaque, under the action of the minerals in the saliva, hardens and forms dental tartar. Tartar can no longer be removed by simple brushing, but requires special tools and devices, specific to the cabinet of dental prophylaxis (the procedure is called descaling and is required at least 2 times a year).

Bacterial plaque it is formed on the basis of food residues, used by bacteria (called periodontal bacteria). Although these periodontal bacteria are naturally present in the mouth, they become harmful when favorable conditions are established for their multiplication, allowing their numbers to increase dramatically. This happens when the patient does not brush his teeth regularly and thus plaque builds up excessively. The same phenomenon also occurs when the patient brushes daily, but incorrectly, and bacteria accumulates especially in hard-to-reach areas, between the teeth or under the works, where the toothbrush does not reach and the use of dental floss or other modern tools is necessary and effective oral hygiene.

Periodontal disease has as its initial symptom inflammation of the gums, which occurs as a response of the body through its defense (immune) system to the attack produced by the toxins eliminated by the bacteria accumulated on the tooth, in the vicinity of the gums. Thus, the gum:

  • turns reddish

  • it's swelling,

  • bleeding while brushing.

This body's immune response can cause serious damage when plaque or tartar is not periodically removed, as the inflammation progresses deeper and destroys the periodontal ligament (the bundle of fibers that connects both the gum and the bone to the tooth) and the supporting bone of the tooth. .

By destroying the bone, the support of the tooth is weakened, which is constantly subjected to mechanical forces during mastication, leading to the fact that it becomes mobile and at some point is lost (and the gap left can only be filled by a dental implant or dental bridge, which implies extra visits to the dental clinic, as well as expenses).

PERIODONTITIS TREATMENT (CHISINAU, IN THE PREMISES OF DAVINCI DENTAL CLINIC)

Treatment of periodontitis in our clinic it corresponds to the highest standards, because we get involved in the depth of the problem, not just treat the symptoms. Obviously, each case is individual, but because one of the basic principles we strictly follow is to preserve the natural tooth whenever possible, we have developed an exhaustive strategy for the effective diagnosis and treatment of periodontitis. What can the treatment of a patient suffering from this condition include? Here is the list, from suspicion of periodontitis to the end of dental treatment:

  • Periodontometry and completing the periodontogram
  • Hair hygiene
  • Paro Recall
  • Bacteriological seeding from periodontal pockets (sampling of periodontal germs, dosage, antibiogram, periodontal vaccine)
  • Surgery to close gingival recessions
  • Open curettage in the treatment of periodontitis
  • Conservative treatment of periodontitis
  • Crown elongation
  • Gingivectomy
  • gingivectomy
  • Closed subgingival curettage in the treatment of periodontitis
  • Regeneration by injection of plasma Plasmolifting
  • Guided tissue regeneration with bioactive materials (bone+membrane)
  • PRF application
  • Regeneration with EMODOGAIN (0.15 gr, 3 gr, 7 gr)
  • Immobilization of periodontal teeth with fiberglass

Obviously, severe cases cause the price of periodontitis treatment to increase, compared to an early intervention (or, even better, prevention through dental prophylaxis, timely descaling and rigorous oral hygiene).

The cost of periodontitis treatment is individual for each case, but the best dentists in our team can certainly provide an approximation during a dental consultations, and the results we are proud of are definitely worth the investment.

What consequences can periodontal disease have without dental treatment at the right time?

Periodontal disease it usually develops slowly over several years without significant pain. Because of this, many patients ignore or neglect the small signs that appear, allowing periodontal disease to progress to serious forms, when neither the best dentists I can't solve the problem quickly. That's why periodic check-ups with the doctor dentist are of major importance in the prevention and early detection of periodontal disease, so that it can be properly treated with minimal effort and expense.

In addition to the destruction generated locally, in the oral cavity, highly pathogenic microbes involved in the appearance and development of the disease can migrate to a distance, generating disorders of other organs, disrupting the body's normal mechanisms, especially the immune system.

Through the bloodstream, the mentioned aggressive microbes can reach and generate serious conditions in various organs such as: heart, liver, brain, etc. Often, however, they contribute, in addition to other residues in the blood stream, to the blocking of blood vessels, generating vascular accidents.

  • During meals, when we swallow, a large part of these microbes end up in the digestive tract where it is not fully clear whether they pass the acid secretions or not.
  • Through breathing, many of these pathogens are drawn into the lungs, causing lung disease.
  • There are clear studies showing that periodontal disease and diabetes support and reinforce each other.

It is good to know that the pregnant woman should check the condition of her teeth and gums before becoming pregnant. Periodontal disease in pregnant women can negatively influence both pregnancy and childbirth.

In conclusion, it is good to pay more attention to oral hygiene at home, according to the professional instruction you will receive in our clinic, and to respect the periodicity of periodic professional hygiene, once every 6 months or once every 3 months, in case you are a smoker
