Endodontic whitening, Chisinau/ DAVINCI dental clinic

Can an endodontically treated tooth that has become colored still be bleached?

The answer is "YES".

At DAVINCI dental clinic, we also have endodontic whitening, which is performed only in the clinic, on devital teeth (teeth without nerves).

In the case of devital teeth ("nerveless" treated in the past), a visible change in color appears over time. Compared to other types of discoloration, which appear on the surface of the teeth, the consequence of external factors, in this case the color change occurs from the inside.

The tooth whitening of these "mummified" teeth will be done from the inside of the tooth.

A devital tooth is generally stained in depth (enamel is much more transparent, so any change in the dentin will be visible on the surface).

Causes of teeth staining pink or yellow

  • Incorrectly performed endodontic treatments
  • Certain materials used in endodontic treatment (e.g. resorcinol formalin)
  • Accidents, trauma, with subsequent necrosis or gangrene of the dental pulp
  • Certain medications administered by the patient long-term (antibiotics)
  • intrapulpal hemorrhage,
  • Root resorption
  • Age
  • Certain metabolic diseases

What does the endodontic whitening procedure consist of?

This type of whitening is performed only on the recommendation of the dentist and only in the dental office, for each affected tooth.

The procedure is fast, painless, consisting of cleaning the endodontic system (root canals) of the tooth, followed by its isolation and the application of the whitening gel.

If the results are delayed, the procedure can be repeated at the dentist's direction. As a special mention, it should be known that in 20-30% cases it may be necessary to repeat the bleaching after a few years.

Endodontic whitening results

 They are generally satisfactory.

The doctors at DAVINCI dental clinic emphasize that this type of whitening is a suitable solution for cases in which the patient only accepts an improvement in color and only if the tooth does not have a large destruction. There are indeed cases with spectacular results - but also some in which even after a few applications no effect is seen.

The risks of endodontic whitening

Sometimes repeated attempts have the effect of tooth fracture or root resorption.

Permanent alternatives

However, the best alternative for endodontic whitening remains veneering - or, if there is not much dental tissue left, the application of a pivot and a dental crown is recommended, but the costs, in these cases, will be significantly higher.

The only one who can tell you if this type of whitening will work in your case is the dentist. Schedule a consultation now!
